About Us

Why SWCD’s Were Created

Soil and Water Conservation Districts were created by the Indiana assembly to protect the State’s soil and water resources following the Dust Bowl of the 1930’s. The Wabash County SWCD has been ran by a five member board since 1944 – all residents of Wabash County. The landowners of the county elect three of the supervisors and the State Committee appoints the other two supervisors from recommendations sent by the local District Board.

Mission & Purpose

Our mission is to help people conserve, improve and sustain our natural resources and environment through wise use of our soil, water and natural resources.

The purpose of Wabash County Soil and Water Conservation District serves both rural and urban people, non-agricultural and agricultural organizations, local units of government, individual landowners and others who request assistance. We provide information about soil, water and related natural resource conservation; identify and prioritize local soil and water resource concerns; and connect land users to sources of education, technical and financial assistance to implement conservation practices and technologies.
